Empatica

Empatica is a full-stack, digital healthcare company, forever changing the way health is monitored and new treatments are developed through our AI platform, digital biomarkers, and state-of-the-art medical wearables. Our customers range from some of the world’s largest institutions (such as NASA, Harvard University, and top-tier pharmaceutical companies, to name a few), to individual users who message us every day and tell us how our products changed their lives.

If you are looking to join a fast-paced growth environment and do meaningful work that can make a true impact in the world, then keep reading.

About the role

Making hardware is tough is a common sentence that you are familiar with if you know what we are talking about.
Creating medical wearables devices is so complex that not so many companies have tried it and only a few of them have succeeded. Empatica is among those and if you are up to manage such a challenge Empatica is the place for you.

We are looking for a talented engineering manager who will be up to the challenge of bringing a new product from Ramp;D to mass production. You will drive a multi-functional team of skilled Electrical, Mechanical and Software engineers to achieve this goal and help Empatica in the mission of saving people's life.

You will be responsible for managing an NPI (New Product Introduction) team at Empatica. You will be responsible for the timeline of a hardware product from its design to its production phases. You will help set up goals and milestones for the team, allocate time for the team members, and help in resolving issues. During the design phase, you will work closely with product managers, designers, and the regulatory team in order to integrate requirements or constraints on the product. During the production phases, you will work closely with suppliers and contract manufacturers to streamline the production process and hold them accountable for the production process and quality. Finally, you will coordinate the work with the other engineering managers on the other company objectives and help in solving dependencies.

Given the complexity and the external dependencies that you will face you need to be broad enough on your knowledge to resolve multiple types of problems. You have to be pragmatic and time-efficient to be able to keep the timeline under control. And finally, you need to be a well-balanced leader able to keep under control the pressure, able to be communicative and humble to interface with a diverse group of cultures and people while keeping them accountable on the delivery

You will be involved in:

  • Manage an NPI team at Empatica, scale-up team processes and culture.
  • Coordinate the definition of the team’s objectives and key results with Empatica directors.
  • Work with the product team, regulatory team, and data science team to have the product requirement defined and agreed.
  • Define and manage the project timeline to achieve those results.
  • Align the team’s work with the other engineering managers at Empatica in case of interdependencies.
  • Define and run sprints for the team, making the team empowered on their goals.
  • Unblock people and timely resolve issues.
  • Coordinate the communication with external companies on which your timeline depends (design firms, suppliers, contract manufacturers).

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of industry experience.
  • Has successfully managed a team on delivering a mass production hardware product
  • Is an exceptional communicator who can lead cross-functional collaborations from end to end to build consensus and manage expectations.
  • Multidisciplinary technical background in EE, ME, and SW.
  • Master’s Degree in an Engineering discipline

Plus

  • Worked in a project involving Active Medical Devices design (hardware and software)
  • Knowledge of regulatory aspects related to medical devices (e.g. Risk assessment, Safety, and EMC testing)
