We are looking for talented Electronics Engineers willing to take on the challenge of bringing new products from the Ramp;D phase to actual mass-scale production. By directly working on the electronics design of such products, you’ll play a key role in Empatica’s mission of saving people's life.
You will join a multidisciplinary team of engineers with various backgrounds (i.e. ME, EE, and FW), thus experiencing the full technological stack at the core of product development. You will be responsible for the design and selection of electronics building-blocks and sensor sets for new products, iterating on their design from prototyping to production. You will work closely with Mechanical Engineers to integrate your PCBs into compact mechanical embodiments, advising on techniques to aid product assembly (e.g. assembly features, fixtures, ...) and deepening your knowledge of manufacturing processes.
You will also drive the go-to-production of your PCBs by interacting with manufacturers, clearing DFM requirements and releasing technical drawings. You will have to validate your designs by carrying out prototyping builds and running tests to assess compliance with initial product requirements as well as regulatory ones, to make sure you’re delivering to the market high-quality, safe products. Last but not least, you will have full access to a dedicated lab where to carry out all the hardware investigations and explorations needed to build top-notch solutions.
Based on the maturity stage of specific projects and depending on your personal interests, you might choose to work either in the Ramp;D division, whose main goal is to explore innovative sensors and technologies to embed in future devices, or in the NPI division, which is focused on bringing products to life up to the mass-production phase.
Requirements
As the ideal candidate for this position you have:
- M.Sc. in Electronics Engineering - or equivalent;
- Proven hands-on experience in the development of Schematics and Layout for electronic devices;
- Proficiency in SW for schematic-entry and PCB layout (e.g. OrCAD Capture and Altium Designer are preferred);
- Familiarity with main building-blocks used in embedded systems (e.g. MCUs, PMICs, BLE radio, sensors, battery management, ...);
- Familiarity with lab instrumentation (e.g. oscilloscope, logic analyser, power supplies, data logger, ...);
- Good lab skills (i.e. soldering, reworking, devices assembling/disassembling, ...);
- Experience with mass-scale PCB production and assembly (i.e. understanding of industry-standard rules for PCB manufacturing, knowledge of SMT processes and best practices, ...);
- Experience with FW development for MCUs (ARM Cortex-M preferred);
- A passion for Empatica’s products and mission

Preferred qualifications:
- Worked in a project concerning Active Medical Devices design (HW and SW);
- Familiarity with electronic devices production pipeline (e.g. boards ICT, components IQC, EOL/FAT, ...);
- Knowledge of regulatory aspects related to medical devices (e.g. Risk assessment, Safety, EMC/EMI testing, ...);
- Scripting/programming skills (e.g. C, C++, C#, Bash, Python, ...);
