Job Description

As a Mission Operations Engineer belonging to the protected categories (L.68/99), the candidate will join a collaborative team to be involved in all aspects of the spacecraft lifetime, initial CONOPs definition, design reviews during development, oversight of final spacecraft testing and qualification, launch, commissioning, long term operations and decommissioning.

In addition to predictive and analytical work, Mission Operations Engineers will serve on-console during spacecraft activities, which may include periods of off-hours or on call work.

Specific tasks may include:

  • Monitor, assess and maintain the operational status of in-orbit spacecraft. This includes defining, developing and executing pass plans, which may include spacecraft configuration changes.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve spacecraft system and subsystem deviations and anomalies.
  • Perform analyses to monitor the health of systems and subsystems throughout the satellites lifecycle.
  • Develop and test automation and data analytics tools in either C++ or Python. This includes analyzing long term trends through data analysis and improving web-based application interfaces.
  • Examine large data sets with the goal of predicting anomalies before they develop.
  • Use statistical methods to compare datasets and detect changes in underlying physical processes.
  • Develop new metrics to assess spacecraft health.
  • Participate in the development of satellite operations procedures, products and processes, working directly with the hardware development teams within the company.
  • Develop and distribute reports summarizing technical analysis, findings and recommendations, including monthly and annual satellite health and status reports as well as anomaly resolution reports.
  • Support the development, launch, and in-orbit test of new satellites.

NOTE: Vacancy is expected to be filled in no more than 30 calendar days from the completion of the hiring process.

Requirements

  • Protected categories (L.68/99) is mandatory
  • BS or MS in engineering field with focus on Space Engineering or other engineering discipline.
  • Comfortable with command line environments (Linux is highly desirable)
  • Familiarity with at least one programing / scripting language (python preferred)
  • Good understanding of orbital dynamics and classical mechanics
  • Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously without supervision.
  • Good communication skills required, including the ability to express ideas clearly both verbally and in writing in time critical situations.
  • Passion for the New Space industry
  • Expertise in one or more specific spacecraft subsystems, and willingness to become proficient in all spacecraft subsystems.
  • Ability to solve complex problems with a high degree of innovation and effectiveness.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft and/or launch vehicle systems. Small satellite or CubeSat experience desirable.
