Job Description

SCOPE AND PURPOSE

The Financial Controller is responsible for the accounting and financial control functions of the businesses in his/her property. Specifically, this involves the following:

  1. Ensure all related local and corporate policies and procedures and management and other agreements are observed by all finance and management personnel.
  2. Safeguard all of the business assets and financial resources to ensure that all are utilized to maximize the business profitability.
  3. Provide timely and accurate financial information and counsel to senior management on all aspects of the business of the property.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Control

  1. Responsible for overseeing the monitoring, controlling and recording all sales, purchases, salaries and expenses of the business.
  2. Responsible for ensuring the Finance team is familiar with the Finance policy manual and that all policies within the manual are implemented and followed.
  3. Maintain close liaison with the external and internal auditors and ensure effective action as necessary on all their agreed upon recommendations. Work along with/assist Financial Controllers in developing effective responses to all recommendations made by Internal and External Auditors; as well as direct action and available human resources, when needed, to implement corrective measures.

Reporting

  1. Responsible for overseeing the preparation of all monthly financial reporting of the business.
  2. Responsible for ensuring that reporting is prepared in established corporate formats and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  3. Responsible for overseeing the preparation of forecasts, budgets and long term plans for the business.
  4. Oversee the financial management and the monthly and annual reporting of the business.

Performance

  1. Responsible for monitoring all budgets and for reporting major deviations of over-expenditure, under-budgeting or non-compliance to the approved budget of the business.
  2. Responsible to assist the General Manager in implementing controls, solutions and action plans to bring actual performance as close as possible to budget.
  3. Assist the General Manager in establishing local policies, rules, internal controls and safeguards that ensure profitability and control of operations.
  4. Advise and provide counsel to the General Manager and finance teams on all financial matters.

Human Resources

  1. Responsible for the recruitment, training, development, discipline and evaluation of the finance team.
  2. Manage staffing levels and requirements in the property, where appropriate identify existing resources and recommend potential staff changes.
  3. Assess closely the Finance division staff in order to identify potential resources and review career planning for all key personnel.
  4. Coordinate training of staff and assist in directing resources in order to control and contain any immediate demanding concerns.

Treasury amp; Tax

  1. Oversee the Treasurer function with regard to cash planning, and review the cash position in order to optimize the use of funds and minimize the volume of cash being held in the business.
  2. Review all changes of tax laws and accounting policies, assess their implications on the business and ensure the finance team implements appropriate changes.

Development

  1. Support the financial function of any opening of new products in the area.
  2. Assist with the accounting related to any hotel or other asset sales, product closure and ownership changes.
  3. Together with the General Manager manage the relations with third party owners or partners.

Communication

  1. Act as a pipeline for two-way communication between the regional office in Italy and the field in order to promote high levels of motivation in the Finance Division.

Other

  1. Conduct self in a professional manner and encourage staff to do the same.
  2. Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Divisional Financial Controllers or the Area General Manager or the General Manager.

COMMUNICATION

  1. Communicate relevant information to the Divisional Financial Controller and the Area General Manager and General Manager and ensure that they are kept well informed of any significant issues.
  2. Must be able to maintain good relationships with all departments in the regional offices and the field.
  3. Report any problems/complaints to the Divisional Financial Controller and General Manager.
  4. Attend area, hotel and company meetings as required.
  5. Liaise with other departments to ensure good communication and offer support.
