Job Description

As a thermal-mechanical engineer, the candidate will join a collaborative team to develop innovative nano-satellite vehicle solutions for multiple projects, focusing on both thermal and mechanical aspects related to them.

The individual will be responsible for hardware development during all phases of a development cycle, including requirements, design, implementation, test, integration, and documentation in a fast-paced environment.

It is expected that the individual will have an ability and desire to learn, grow, and discover continuously. Specific tasks may include:
  • Working in a small team environment closely with electrical and systems engineers to develop optimal solutions to complex problems, ensuring all satellite components meet their temperature requirements and solving spacecraft thermal related problems;
  • Participating in hardware requirements generation, design, implementation, and testing discussion with multiple team members;
  • Develop assembly procedures, test plans, and fabrication documentation;
  • Deliver thermal solutions that meet all operational and mass criteria;
  • Participating in team discussions involving vehicle arrangement and design for ongoing and future projects;
  • Maintaining and updating the 3D model database;
  • Identifying appropriatematerials and surface treatments for spacecraft parts;
  • Analyzing data and correlating thermal and structural models to test data;
  • Working in both an office and lab environment;

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical, Aerospace, or equivalent degree required;
  • Strong mechanical background;
  • Ability in working with solid modeling software and FEA (SolidWorks, ANSYS);
  • Proficiency with Thermal Desktop;
  • Highly aware of and familiar with the various CubeSat bus and payload design drivers and their operational limits (Antennas, RF Payloads, Batteries, ADCS, Avionics, Solar Array, Structure);
  • Ability to identify and analyze all thermal load conditions for satellite vehicle lifetime: lunch, orbit raising, in-orbit operations;
  • Knowledgeable and proficient in applying advanced engineering principles;
  • Quick to grasp abstract problems and creative in visualizing solutions;
  • Productive in craftsmanship and attentive to detail;
  • Ability to document complex designs and procedures with attention to detail;
  • Good communication with team members, and ability to provide and receive constructive criticism;
  • Ability to work with flight hardware in a controlled environment;
  • Ability to use precision inspection equipment, i.e. micrometers, indicators, (usually acquired by machining or other precision hands-on experience);
  • Proficient use of written and oral English language is mandatory;
